Visual language; what is a line? journals.
Sabrina Ward Harrison
Another style I have looked into is journal. Usually journals are personal to the artist who created them and have a handmade look about them which adds to this personal factor. I feel this would really suit my own work as my work is going to be about me and the key events that have happened in my life. Journals are usually a mixture of text and image and theres not really any consistency throughout the books so it makes them look more interesting. I think the work of Sabrina Ward Harrison (above) is interesting because its quite playful, colourful and generally really nice to look at.

Visual language; what is a line? deconstructionist research.
Here i've found a few examples of deconstructionist graphic design. I've considered using this style because i'm working with type and it makes pieces look really interesting and modern. There are various different ways to deconstruct text too so this would mean i'd could experiment a lot with my own ideas. Some pieces are very subtle and others are more obvious but both look just as good.

Visual language - photography workshop.
I reviewed the images i'd previously looked at in my colour theory sessions and because my given colour for this project was violet I focussed particularly on these images. The ones that stood out most were the yellow on purple and vice versa. This was a starting point for the direction I could take.
I also had to consider the shades of violet I was going to use in my imagery as there is quite a few, I could also use a range of these shades for a more visually engaging series of photographs.
Looking at the colour wheel showed me that violet and yellow were opposite therefor they would have good contrast and possibly present interesting results when photographed more thoughtfully together. This in a way made a decision for me in using two colours in most of my visual investigation.

Communication is a virus; refresh.
Facebook is a social network service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. As of January 2011, Facebook has more than 600 million active users. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common interest user groups, organized by workplace, school, or college, or other characteristics. The name of the service stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by university administrations in the USA to help students get to know each other better. Facebook allows anyone who declares themselves to be at least 13 years old to become a registered user of the website.

1. In December last year, a couple's £1 million town house was vandalised by 400 gatecrashers after a girl's 16th birthday party was advertised on the Facebook.
Sylvia and Michael Hobday went out for the evening, leaving four adult friends to man the doors of their home in Brighton so their daughter Georgina could host a party for 100 friends, themed on the MTV programme My Super Sweet 16.
However, news of the party spread via the social networking website and up to 500 people turned up, leaving the adults powerless to stop them.

proof that bullying is a big problem on the internet site.
flyers...
I researched leaflets/flyers a little bit by looking at the ones I was given in freshers week. This was so that I could get an idea of the sorts of language and content found on flyers given to students. They are usually quite informal but also mature at the same time. They also come in all shapes and sizes so the scope for this part of our ideas is huge.
